During the course of orthodontic treatment a patient with braces may have to wear elastic rubber bands to help with the correction of their malocclusion. Rubber bands align your bite and are very important for the bite fixing phase of orthodontic treatment which is usually the longest and most difficult part of the whole process. They are simply small rubber bands that are attached to the braces. The rubber bands should be changed out for new ones about three times a day or after every meal so that they may hold enough elasticity for the movement needed.
